It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Thursday 5th September 2024 of Ms Carmel Power; Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, and formerly of Victoria Street, Co. Dublin, and Geneva, Switzerland.
Pre-deceased by her parents Imelda (nee Shanahan) and Jack Power, her brother-in-law John O’Meara; Ms Power passed away peacefully, at the age of 91, while in the care of staff at Milford Care Centre, Co. Limerick.
Her passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sorrowing family; sisters Ann O’Meara (nee Power) and Imelda de Paor, nephew Eoin, nieces Aine and Eimear, nephew-in-law Brian, grand niece Aoibhinn, grand nephews Cian, Finn and Hugh, extended relatives, neighbours and friends both at home and abroad.

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Ms Power will repose for Requiem Mass at 1.00pm on Saturday afternoon, September 7th, in the Sacred Heart Church, Cappanaleigh, Upperchurch, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, followed by interment, immediately afterwards, in the nearby local cemetery.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, yesterday Wednesday 4th September 2024 of Rev. Walter McNamara, (Congregatio Sancti Spiritus (C.S.Sp.), Congregation of the Holy Spirit, Kimmage Manor, Dublin and late of Ballybrophy and Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by his parents, the late Leonore (née Delahunty) and Thomas, sisters Mary Olive (Barry), Joan (Mullins), Anne (Gannon) and Leonore (Sexton), brothers Desmond and John; Rev. McNamara passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and confrères, while in the care of staff at Nazareth House Nursing Home.
A former Missionary in Australia, Ireland, England and Sierra Leone, his passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; brothers Fr William (San Antonio, Texas), Séamus (Smithville, Texas) and Gearóid, sisters-in-law Kathy and Ailís, brother-in-law Séamus (Mullins, Perth, Australia), nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins, extended relatives, fellow Spiritans, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

Pre-deceased by his father John and his brothers Eamon and Joe; Mr Ely passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, while in the loving care of the Community Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; mother Mary, his brother Seán and sisters Helen, Ann and Caroline, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, rxtended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends.

His remains will be received into the Church of Our Lady and St. Kevin, Littleton, Thurles at 12:00 noon, on Sunday, September 8th, to further repose for Requiem Mass, followed by interment, immediately afterwards in Ballymoreen Graveyard, Littleton, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

His passing is most deeply regretted, sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his sorrowing family; wife Breda, daughter Martina, son-in-law John (Fitzgibbon), adored grandchildren Aoibhinn, Cara and Erin, brothers Jim and Paul, sisters Helen and Ann, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended relatives, neighbours and friends.

To mark the launch of this year’s “See Change” Green Ribbon campaign, Mary Immaculate College have illuminated the front of their Thurles Campus building, in green.
Now in its 13th year, the See Change Green Ribbon Campaign initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and fostering open conversations regarding mental health issues across Ireland.
As part of this year’s campaign, Mary Immaculate College (MIC) and Leadership for Inclusion in the Early Years Consortium (LINC ) programme will host an online event on Thursday, September 26th at 7:00pm, featuring See Change Ambassador Mr Anthony O’Reardon, who will share his experiences and thoughts on the ever evolving landscape of mental health awareness.
Students, faculty, staff, and the wider community are invited to attend this free online event. You can register by clicking Here.
Reflecting on the significance of MIC and the LINC Programme’s involvement, Mr O’Reardon expressed his gratitude, noting: “The support of MIC and the LINC Programme is greatly appreciated and is a huge help in raising awareness and supporting the Green Ribbon Campaign. Thankfully, society’s attitude towards mental health is changing, evolving from previous generations’ negative attitudes”.
Ms Aisling Knox, President of MISU, added, stating, “We welcome the See Change Green Ribbon Campaign to our Limerick and Thurles campuses. As a strong advocate for mental health awareness, Mary I Students’ Union is delighted to support MIC in this initiative”.
