Tipperary Roads Policing Unit while conducting a speed checkpoint, along the M8 (Motorway) over the past number of days, detected a vehicle speeding.
The driver subsequently failed the new roadside “DrugWipe 6 S test, which indicted the presence of cannabis.
A passenger in the vehicle also was found to be in possession of cannabis. The cannabis was confiscated and the driver was arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving.
Further investigations are ongoing.
Tomorrow night, December 4th, Thurles Cathedral Choir welcome Clonmel Concert Band; the latter who will join them in a ‘Gala Evening’ of music and song, starting sharp at 7:30pm.
Admission to the event is free, however donations will be greatly appreciated on the night towards the “Cathedral Reroofing Project”.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Friday 2nd December 2022, of Mrs Kathleen Ryan (née Fennessy), Glenreigh, Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Pre-deceased by her father Michael; Mrs Ryan passed away peacefully, following a long illness most bravely borne, while in the care of staff at Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel.
Her passing is most deeply regretted by her husband Timmie, daughter Lisa, sons Alan, Timothy and Eamonn, partners of the latter Tracy, Sara and Megan, mother Chrissy, grandsons Dylan and Joey, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, uncles, aunts, cousins, extended relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Funeral Arrangements.
The earthly remains of Mrs Ryan will repose at Hugh Ryan’s Funeral Home, Slievenamon Road, Thurles on Sunday evening, December 4th, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm. Her body will be received into the former Cistercian Abbey Church at Holycross, Thurles, on Monday morning, December 5th, at 11:00am to further repose for Requiem Mass at 11:30am. Interment will take place immediately afterwards in the adjoining graveyard.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death, today Thursday 1st December 2022, of Mr Paddy McGrath, Marlhill, New Inn, Cahir, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Killeenyarda, Holycross, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Mr McGrath, sadly, passed away while in the care of staff at the Bon Secours Hospital, College Rd, University College, Cork.
His passing is most deeply regretted and sadly missed by his loving family; his loving wife Noreen, daughter Deirdre, son Pat, son-in-law Eamon, daughter-in-law Rachel, grandson Dylan, sister-in-law Rita, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, kind neighbours and many friends.

The Tipperary Roads Policing Unit, carrying out patrols this evening, intercepted a vehicle for having a number of defects. The driver later was arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving, after failing a drug test for Cocaine, using the new Garda DrugWipe apparatus.
Gardaí are deploying a new drug testing device for drivers as and from today, to coincide with the start of their Christmas and New Year Road Safety campaign.
This new apparatus will test for a wider range of drugs and will be used by every roads policing unit in our Republic, thus forming a central part of the garda campaign over the next six weeks.
The new test, as stated in the video shown above, can deliver, for the first time, results in around eight minutes and can test for cannabis, cocaine, benzodiazepines and opiates, as well as amphetamines and methamphetamines.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Tipperary Roads Policing Unit stopped a vehicle after it turned away from a checkpoint here in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. It was found that the vehicle’s driver had never held a licence or insurance. The vehicle was immediately seized, with a court appearance expected to follow.
