Taxpayers and Thurles Chamber of Commerce members, as usual also remained silent, latter Chamber members choosing to pursue instead, personal self-interests, regarding certain planning applications being sought in Mitchel Street.
So, here again is yet one more blatant example of where Tipperary County Council road engineers have insisted on flushing gained Local Property Tax (LPT) increases down the proverbial toilet.
Readers can view at first hand the feeble attempts and laughable efforts made by the Tipperary Co. Council road engineer, to force large vehicles off the kerbing, by using thin hollow piping, latter embedded in cement. This money wasting exercise, today, can be viewed at the Clongour Road / Slievenamon Road T junction.
This work was undertaken, just before Christmas, by a private company (Tipperary Co. Council refuse to employ staff choosing instead to employ outside contractors at triple the cost), using a Plastic Bollard and a Plastic Ridgeguard type Pedestrian Restraint Barrier to give warning to advancing traffic, until the cement had dried around the hollow pipes. Both the plastic bollard and the barrier have now both been destroyed by large vehicles and remain strewn about the stated area.
Who sanctioned and signed off on this irresponsible, unqualified piece of witless decision making? Perhaps local councillors will discuss this at their next meeting, and include that for over two months most of the traffic lights are out of sync and some green 120-volt bulbs are NOT working.
Gardaí have issued a warning to all motorists requesting that they drive with greater care, following a number of collisions on the M7 in Co. Tipperary this afternoon.
All of the vehicle crashes occurred, following prevailing bad weather conditions, including in particular, a series of hail showers, which are presently affecting Co. Tipperary.
The M7 was forced to close in both directions between Nenagh town and the village of Birdhill in North Tipperary, following a series of crashes on both sides of the motorway. Note: We understand that this route is now open again since 2:00pm this afternoon.
The multi-vehicle collision, which happened just before 7:00am yesterday morning, involved two cars and a truck.
A man in his late teens was rushed to South Tipperary General Hospital suffering from serious injuries.
Gardaí believe that one of the vehicles, a car, latter involved in the collision, was taken without the owner’s permission from a property in Castletroy, Co. Limerick, late the previous evening.
According to the AA Roadwatch Newsroom, (summary incident updated at 5:13pm this evening January 10th), the N62 remains blocked in both directions between Thurles and the Horse & Jockey, in the vicinity of Thurles Golf club.
Gardaí advise drivers to take an alternative route, while they deal with a multi-vehicle collision.
A pensioner out walking on the N24 Limerick to Waterford road, at Glenconnor Upper, outside Clonmellon, Co. Tipperary, remains fighting for his life following a collision with a cyclist.
We understand the male pedestrian; latter aged in his mid-70’s and a local resident of the area, suffered serious injuries yesterday evening, January 6th, at around 6.35pm.
We understand the victim was removed to South Tipperary General Hospital suffering from serious head injuries.
Garda forensic collision investigators have since carried out a technical examination at the scene, however the true circumstances of the accident remain unclear.
Clonmel Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information in relation to Monday evening’s collision, and would like to converse with any passing road users who may have dash-cam footage.

The elderly male pedestrian (named as Mr Thomas O’Brien) who received seriously head injuries following a collision with a cyclist on the eve of January 6th, 2020, has sadly passed away.
The Clonmel resident, aged in his mid-70’s; who was out walking at Glenconnor Upper, Clonmel on Monday evening, died at South Tipperary General Hospital yesterday.
