Thurles CBS (Tipperary) 2-12 (18 pts) – St Francis College, Rochestown (Cork) 1-12 (15 pts)
In front of close to 2,000 spectators and following a six year gap, Thurles CBS have claimed back the Dr Harty Cup for an eighth time. Playing in Mallow Co. Cork this afternoon, Thurles killed off their rivals St Francis College, Rochestown and the latter’s dream of a first Harty decider.
Doubtless it was Billy McCarthy, the Thurles Sarsfields midfielder, who truly inspired Thurles CBS to Harty Cup glory, scoring a first half goal and a further two late, but nevertheless, crucial points.
Trailing by just one point and with only 11 minutes remaining, Thurles landed four in a row to re-capture for the eight time this much coveted piece of silverware.

McCarthy were crucial to this latest Harty Cup success for Thurles, who led by 2-7 to 1-6 at the midway point. Robbie Long was unlucky not to have raised the stakes for Thurles five minutes before the break, however his attempt was thwarted by Andrew Cullinane, granting the former instead just one point from the latter’s rebound.
Despite playing against the breeze for the second half, Rochestown did managed to rally from being four points down at half-time to draw level by the 44th minute and with just eleven minutes remaining, Rochestown were indeed a point ahead, thanks to their leading scorer, Ciaran Cormack, latter who landed a free to establish a 1-12 (15 pts) to 2-8 (14 pts) lead, over a desperately hard working and determined Thurles outfit.
However two points from Billy McCarthy granted Thurles the whip hand once more and supported by further scores from Kevin Duggan and Michael Connors, a determined Thurles team ensured their finishing score with four unanswered points.
Thurles, were to lose their free-taker Niall Heffernan to a second yellow card offence at the death, but Thurles had put in enough work by then to ensure their coveted prize.

Disappointment this afternoon (Saturday31/1/2015) for Annacotty’s Castletroy College, when they were beaten 1-9 (12pts) to 0-11 (11pts) by Tipperary’s Thurles CBS, in the Harty Cup semi-final in Toomevara.
Full forward Ian Coates (Castletroy) was issued with a straight red card for an off the ball strike on Jack Derby (Thurles), thus leaving Castletroy to play 50 minutes with just 14 men.
Castletroy clung on against the breeze in the opening half, but were dealt another blow just before the break when Robbie Long (Thurles) deflected a Niall Heffernan (Thurles) free, neatly into the back of their net.
In today’s bitterly cold conditions Thurles did however struggle to take advantage of both the wind and the numerical difference in the first half, but were leading 1-6 (9pts) to 0-3 at the break, with all of Castletroy’s scores coming from Barry Nash frees.
Castletroy had the breeze with them after the break and they made it count with accurate free-taking from Brian Nash (South Liberties) and two excellent scores from half back Andrew La Touche Cosgrave (Monaleen).
Some 13 wides from Thurles ensured Castletroy would continue to remain in tight chase right up until full time, but mainly due to the super attacking ability of Niall Heffernan, Thurles managed to survived and book their final appearance.
Thurles CBS endured a ferocious second half fightback from this 14-man Castletroy Community College to progress to their first Harty Cup final since 2011.

 With Sincere Sympathy It is with great sadness we report the death today (Wednesday 28th January 2015), of Mr Pierce Molony, Racecourse Road, Thurles, Co Tipperary.
Surrounded by his family, Mr Molony died peacefully following a long illness while in the loving care of his friends in Private 2, St James’s Hospital, Dublin 8.
His passing today is deeply regretted by his loving wife and best friend Riona, his daughters Patricia, Helen, Ann-Marie and Kate, his adored grandchildren Killian, Laragh, Isabelle, Emma-Mai, Pierce and Jack, his sons-in-law Jack, Michael, John and Robbie, his brothers, sisters, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a huge circle of close friends.
Mr Molony’s body will repose at his residence on Friday next from 3.00pm until 8.00pm.
Removal to the Cathedral of The Assumption, [Map Ref.] Cathedral Street, Thurles will take place at noon on Saturday, arriving at 12.15pm for Requiem Mass at 1.00pm. Following Mass, burial will take place in St Patricks Cemetery, Moyne Road, Thurles.

Dave O’Brien travels the world sharing his knowledge on how he became the only Irish person and only the 3rd person in the world (the other 2 where full time professional athletes) and the oldest person at 56 years, to complete the 4 Deserts challenge, a truly remarkable feat.
Each desert saw him complete a 250km race over 5 days, while self supported carrying all his food and sleeping under canvas at night. Dave completed this challenge in just 38 weeks and he will now share his story; a story, I might add, that will appeal to all age groups, about this adventure and much, much more on the evening.

A 26 year old man, who was injured while kayaking yesterday with a group of friends in the Clare Glens area near Newport in Tipperary, has been treated in Limerick University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, following a rescue operation which lasted some three and a half hours.
The rescue efforts were supported by the South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (S.E.M.R.A), the Coast Guard Helicopter service from Waterford, together with the Newport Fire Service, the Killaloe Coast Guard, HSE Ambulance Staff and members of the Gardaí.
It is understood that the man ran into difficulties in a very inaccessible area, while attempting to traverse the river Clare. Latter river flows through a naturally occurring dense wooded area which is situated on both sides by a red sandstone gorge, known to visitors as the Clare Glens and which in turn displays numerous natural waterfalls, rock pools and rapids.
This extremely picturesque location has become a very popular visitor attraction for walkers, due to its sheer natural beauty and its offer of some wonderful photographic opportunities.
Mr Jimmy Barry, Deputy PRO for the Clonmel based S.E.M.R.A. stated that rescuers needed all the resources they could access to get the man and his friends to safety. Having assessing the overall situation it had been decided to lower a stretcher and mountain rescue volunteers to the casualty site.
This operation was the first call out for the S.E.M.R.A team in 2015, the last being on St Stephen’s Day 2014.
