Tipperary Sports Partnership is facilitating a ‘Child Welfare & Protection in Sport Basic Awareness’ training. This course is aimed at sports leaders, children’s officers, parents or anyone working with young people in sport.
A central goal for all those involved in sport for young people is to provide a safe, positive and nurturing environment, where children can develop and enhance their physical and social skills.
Promoting a child-centred environment should go hand in hand with identifying and eliminating practices that impact negatively on safe and enjoyable participation in sport for young people.
Workshops
The next series of workshops will be delivered by Sport Ireland tutors on October 19th, at the LIT Campus in Thurles, starting at 6.00pm sharp.
This training will enable Children’s Officers/Sports Leaders to:-
• Implement best practice in protecting the welfare of participants.
• Create a child-centred environment within the sports club.
• List categories of abuse and some indicators associated with abuse.
• Make an appropriate response to a disclosure.
• Make a report to designated officer or appropriate Statutory Authorities.
Prior registration with Tipperary Sports Partnership is necessary, so please contact them to obtain a registration form. A nominal fee of €15 is required to secure your place. Please book early as places will be limited on the workshop.
A ‘Certificate of Attendance’ will be awarded to those taking part on full completion of the course.

The 2010 – Homecoming of Heroes
Tipperary Hurlers Homecoming
As every true Irish man and woman in the world today is aware, Kilkenny Senior Hurlers were out-gunned in Croke Park, Dublin, yesterday afternoon, and despite Kilkenny’s Kevin Kelly netting an early goal in the second half, Tipperary stepped up displaying a hurling master-class to ensure that the Liam MacCarthy Cup would head back for the 27th time to the Premier County tonight.
So also news has similarly spread regarding our Minor Hurlers, latter having won their 20th All-Ireland title, with a seven-point win over Limerick.
Up to 30,000 Tipperary supporters, young and old, from all over Tipperary and further afield are expected to converge on Thurles town tonight (5th September 2016), to welcome home and congratulate both the successful Tipperary Minor and Senior All Ireland hurling team winners.
‘Semple’s Field’ (Semple Stadium, Thurles) will be fully open, allowing access from both ends from 5.00pm, and both victorious teams are expected to arrive in their respective buses at that venue between 7.00pm and 7.30pm.
Following the customary well deserved congratulatory speeches, it is hoped that as many people as possible will get a chance to meet and greet the individual players.
Kilkenny Homecoming
Back across the border, supporters of Tipperary’s old rivals Kilkenny will gather also this evening at Nowlan Park, where fans will get their chance to welcome home their ‘Black and Amber’ heroes.
Both teams however will be keeping in mind that preparations for the 2017 hurling challenge will get under-way today, but for the moment Tipperary Minor and Senior hurlers are the undisputed 2016 All Ireland Champions.
