Killer Covid-19 Cases Reach 13,924 Today On Irish Mainland

A further 11,182 cases of coronavirus were reported in the Republic of Ireland in the past 24 hours, up from 7,411 reported yesterday.

The latter confirmed figures represent the highest number of cases reported on any one day, since the pandemic began and overtakes the previous figure of 8,248 reported on January 8th last.

There are 393 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals around the country, a rise of 3 above yesterday. There are 89 of these patients being treated in intensive care units, a decline of 9 from yesterday and the lowest number since November 9 last.

The total number of deaths linked to Covid-19 here in the Republic of Ireland since the start of the pandemic stands at 5,890.

Ireland now has the second highest uptake rate in the European Union for booster and third dose vaccination.

On January 10th, 2022 all other adults aged 16 to 29 will be able to avail of a booster vaccine, as well vaccines for children aged 5 to 11.

Another 3,286 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Northern Ireland today, up from 3,227 cases reported yesterday.
Here also, today’s figures represent the highest number of daily cases reported in Northern Ireland since the start of the pandemic.

On Friday, there were 256 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospitals, up from 254 yesterday.
There are 34 patients with Covid-19 in northern hospital intensive care units, the same number as reported yesterday.
However, sadly, 3 more Covid-19-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland today, bringing their total number of deaths to 2,962.
