Health Service Executive’s Chief Clinical, Dr. Colm Henry has expressed concern over what he calls a “stubbornly high” level of Covid-19, which is corroborated by some 500 – 700 plus, new cases being identified here in the Republic, on a daily basis, and also in the increase in referrals made by GPs seeking virus tests.
The Department of Health has confirmed that there has been sadly 2 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 4,587.
With the highest daily increase in cases reported since Friday 26th of February last; this evening we report there have been 769 new additional virus cases reported here within the Irish Republic. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception, at 230,599.
Of the cases today; 284 are in Dublin, 67 in Donegal, 47 in Offaly, 45 in Meath, 44 in Kildare; with the other remaining 282 cases located across 20 other counties.
There have been 5,232 virus cases confirmed here in Co. Tipperary, since the pandemic began, same figure relevant up to and including March 19th, 2021.
There are 360 people with Covid-19 in hospital today, and of that number, 82 are in ICU’s, according to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub.
The Minister for Public Expenditure Mr Michael McGrath has stated that Ireland’s hotel quarantine system, dealing with arrivals from designated countries is due to come into effect by the end of this week; with Minister for Health Mr Stephen Donnelly, to outline how this system will work, in the coming days.
With the Health Service Executive having now resumed administering AstraZeneca vaccine at several hospitals across the country, some 478,725 first doses of Covid-19 vaccines have now been administered here in Ireland up to March 18th, with 171,526 persons having received their second dose.
The total worldwide number of virus cases identified up to 5:30pm this evening, now stands at over 123.00 million confirmed, with global deaths at well over 2.71 million.
