Covid-19 Update: Fri. 5th Feb. 2021 – 35 Deaths – 1,047 New Cases

This evening the Department of Health have confirmed that, sadly, there have been 35 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 3,621.

We further learn that there have been 1,047 new additional virus cases reported in the republic today. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception, here in the Irish Republic, at 201,763.

There have been 4,458 confirmed cases to date in Tipperary since the pandemic began, based on data relevant up to midnight on Wed. Feb. 3rd last.

There are over 1,258 people with Covid-19 in hospital, and of that number, 181 people are in ICU’s, according to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub.

Minister for Health Mr Stephen Donnelly has confirmed that the first batches of AstraZeneca will start arriving this weekend, starting with an initial 21,600 doses. In total, there will be 190,000 doses in all, arriving in February. Most of dose two of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will have been given by the end of this month.

European Union Foreign Policy Chief Mr Josep Borrell was in Moscow for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, and has hailed the success of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, stating that he hopes it could be certified for use within the EU.

Gardaí have confirmed more than 4,500 people have been fined for breaches of Covid-19 restrictions – of which 3,500 were for non-essential travel. People travelling to airports or ports intending to take holidays abroad are now liable for a €500 fine.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, are now standing at well over 105.4 million confirmed cases, with global deaths at well over 2.28 million.
