Covid-19 Vaccine – How Do I Apply?

Thurles.Info readers have been asking us the question, “Please state how an elderly person, not in a nursing home, should apply to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, when the same comes on stream to the general public.”

Unable to answer this incoming query, we contacted Mr Fran Thompson (Interim Chief Information Officer, HSE).

We thank Mr Thompson for his prompt reply, who stated: –

“Getting a COVID-19 vaccine should protect you from the serious complications of COVID-19. Our aim in offering the vaccine to the population is to protect people and reduce the illness and deaths caused by this virus.

The first groups to get the COVID-19 vaccine are:

(A) People aged 65 years and older who live in long-term care facilities, as they have a greater risk of serious illness if they get COVID-19.
(B) Frontline healthcare workers, as they have a higher risk of being exposed to COVID-19
Note: If you live in a long-term care facility, you will be offered the vaccine there. If you are a healthcare worker, you will be offered the vaccine where you work or nearby.

The vaccine will be offered to more priority groups as soon as possible.

Note: You do not need to apply or register to get the vaccine. We will let you know when it’s your turn to get the COVID-19 vaccine, through advertising or an invitation.” – Signed Mr Fran Thompson (Interim Chief Information Officer, HSE.)

If the information shown above does not answer you query, please contact the HSE live on 1850 24 1850.
