Covid-19 Update: Mon. 28th Dec. 2020 – 1 Death – 765 New Cases.

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that there have sadly been 1 further death caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,205.

There are 765 new additional virus cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 86,894.

Of today’s cases; 291 are in Dublin, 63 in Cork, 59 in Monaghan, 49 in Louth, 43 in Meath with the remaining 260 cases located across all other counties.

There have been 150 confirmed killer Covid-19 virus cases in Co Tipperary in the past 14 days, with the worst hit area being Carrick-on-suir, in the South of the county.
Further data relevant up to midnight on Saturday, December 26th last confirms Tipperary has had 1,791 cases of the virus to date.

There were 359 people with Covid-19 in hospitals in the Republic, with 30 in intensive care.

Meanwhile in Northern Ireland, a further 20 deaths have been reported by their Department of Health. A further 1,634 new cases have been confirmed positive in the past 48 hours.

Here in the Republic, Dr. Colm Henry has stated that vaccinations in our 582 nursing homes around the country, will commence on January 4th. 2021.
An Tánaiste Mr Leo Varadkar has stated that vaccinations would start in acute hospital settings to “build confidence”, before moving to nursing homes next week. He further stated that medical experts in the National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) wanted vaccines to start in latter stated settings, in the unlikely event that something went wrong, such as allergic reactions.
Tomorrow will see the first Pfizer / BioNTech vaccines administered in acute hospital settings in Cork, Galway and Dublin.

The distribution of an initial 200 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, latter developed by Pfizer / BioNTech is expected to be completed for all of the European Union, by September 2021 at the latest.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at over 81 million, with global deaths at almost 1.77 million.
