Taoiseach accelerates planned roadmap to reopening Ireland’s 26 counties.
Taoiseach Mr Leo Varadkar has stated “Today I can confirm that it is safe to move to Phase 2 of the plan to reopen our country, starting on Monday.”
Quoting a maxim from the Roman statesman Cicero (Cicero’s De Legibus, “Salus populi suprema lex esto”), “The health of the people should be the supreme law”, this he stated had been the full approach taken by the government since the pandemic was declared in March last.
Phase 3 of the roadmap is expected to start on June 29th and Phase 4 on July 20th next, if all goes according to plan. However, “As we ease restrictions and meet and interact more, this will become more important,” he warned.
While physical distancing should still be observed, public Libraries can open on Monday.
Shops reopening will continue to provide specific dedicated hours for those who are over 70 years or in an at-risk group.
Also from Monday, up to 25 people will now be able to attend funerals for loved ones.
Animal Marts can reopen and greyhound racing resume, but alas without spectators.
The total number of Covid-19 virus cases confirmed here in Co. Tipperary; as of midnight on Wednesday, June 3rd last, is recorded at 540, with 0 new cases notified within a 24 hours period.
The Department of Health has confirmed this evening that a further 7 persons have sadly passed away from the Corona-19 virus here in the Republic of Ireland, over the past 24 hours. These latest figures leave the total number of deaths caused by this pandemic currently at 1,670.
This evening, it has also been confirmed that an additional 28 new cases of the virus have been identified, bringing the total since conception, here in the Republic of Ireland, to 25,163.
Dublin remains with the highest number of Covid-19 virus cases at 12,118 (48%) followed by Cork with 1,527 cases (6%) and Kildare with 1,419 cases (6%).
People are being warned to avoid large gatherings / celebrations in private homes.
