Covid-19 Update: Tue. 12th May 2020 – 24 Deaths – 107 New Cases

2020 – International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020 as the “International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife,” in honour of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, [This day 12th May 1820 – 13th August 1910].

In more recent weeks, in particular, we have grown to appreciate the vital, unselfish rolls played by our Irish Nurses and Midwives who have served in providing health services during this Covid-19 virus pandemic.

We recognise you as people who devote your lives to the caring and protection of all human beings; giving life saving immunizations and other valuable health advice; while looking after the elderly and generally meeting everyday essential health needs.


You, our current nursing staff, are the first and often the only point of care in our communities worldwide
and today and into the future, we salute you.

New virus cases confirmed here in the Premier County; (as at midnight on Sunday, May 10th last), have again risen from 523 to 524; showing an increase of a further 1 new case now having been verified, over a 24-hour period.

The Department of Health has confirmed this afternoon that a further 24 people have tragically died from the Covid-19 virus, here in the Republic of Ireland over the past 24 hours. These latest figures bring the total death toll, from this pandemic, to 1,488.

A total of 107 new cases of the coronavirus have also, today, have been identified, bringing the total since conception to 23,442.

The number of patients in intensive care units continues to drop, with just 71 patients suffering with the Covid-19 virus remaining in hospital.
