It is with a great personal sadness I learned of the death yesterday, Monday 5th March 2018, of Mr Séan Byrne, Tubrid, Ballylooby, Cahir, Co. Tipperary.
A man of great integrity, Mr Byrne first served as a Fianna Fáil member of South Tipperary Co. Council, and later as a member of Dáil Éireann (1982 to 1987), before serving as a member of Seanad Éireann (1997). He was also a member of the group referred to as the ‘Gang of 22’, latter who opposed the leadership of Mr Charlie J. Haughey, back in the early 1980s.
Beloved husband of the late Mary (nee Burke); Mr Byrne passed away peacefully, aged 81, and surrounded by his loving family, while in the care of the Acorn Lodge Nursing Home, in Cashel.
His passing is most deeply regretted by his family; daughters Miriam, Bernie (O’Donnell), Claire (McDermott), Olive (O’Leary) and Seanie, Seamus, Michael, the late Liam, Tom, and PJ; sons-in-law Pat, Tony, and Eoin; sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; grandchildren; extended relatives, neighbours and a wide circle friends.

The earthly remains of Mr Byrne will lie in repose at his family home in Tubrid on Wednesday evening, March 7th, from 4.oopm to 8.00pm.
