Development work has finally begun on the new public car park to service those visiting St Patrick’s Cemetery. The car park is being developed in an area known as the Bowling Green, at Loughtagalla, Moyne Road, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, using a section of land previously secured by the Templemore / Thurles Municipal District Council.
In the past, vehicle users were forced to use the private parking facilities of the nearby Peake Villa Football Club, Thurles Rugby Club and the forecourt of Renault Main Dealers, Cleary Motors, in order to park their vehicles in relative safety.
Currently, in the event of large funeral attendances; visitors are forced to park parallel to the narrow road sides, often affecting normal traffic flow, while also blocking pedestrian walkways in the nearby Loughtagalla housing estate.
This car parking development close to the cemetery is therefore greatly welcomed.
