It is with regret that we report the accidental drowning of a young man in a Co. Tipperary river.
Gardaí and full local Emergency Services were summoned to the area, following reports that a man appeared to be in difficulty while swimming in the River Suir close to Carrick-on-Suir town centre shortly before 5.00pm this evening.
A Coast Guard Rescue helicopter, together with Carrick-on-Suir River Rescue Team and the local Civil Defence thoroughly searched the area, before the Coast Guard helicopter crew spotted a body, below the surface of the water.
River craft were immediately directed to the location, where the body of a 25-year-old male was recovered by a local diver at approximately 6.20pm and pronounced dead at the scene.
His remains have now been taken to Waterford University Hospital, where a post-mortem is expected take place in the coming hours.
