The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) today report that seven ‘Closure Orders’ and one ‘Prohibition Order’ were served on food businesses during the month of May, for breaches of food safety legislation, pursuant to the FSAI Act, 1998 and the EC (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010.
The Enforcement Orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive.
The Closure Orders and one Prohibition Order relate to premises in Dublin, Sligo, Wicklow, Donegal and include one ‘Closure Order’ in Co.Tipperary.
The Tipperary ‘Closure Order’ refers to the food preparation area and associated food activities at the Maid of Erin public house, situated at No’s 9/10 Church Street, Tipperary Town, Co. Tipperary which has now been declared a ‘Closed Area’.
This closure does not preclude or impede, in any way, the service of drinks in the bar areas of the premises.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) was first established under the Food Safety Authority of Ireland Act, 1998. This Act was legislated in July 1998 and came into effect on 1st January 1999.
The Authority is a statutory, independent and science-based body, dedicated to protecting public health and consumer interests in the area of food safety and hygiene.
