Mr Michael Roche (R.I.P.)
It was with sadness we learned of the death today, Wednesday 7th December 2016 of Mr Mick (Michael) Roche, Horse & Jockey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary and formerly of Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary.
Mr Roche, aged 73, was widely regarded in the past as one of the giants of the game of hurling, winning three All-Ireland Senior Hurling titles with Co.Tipperary. He also achieved five Munster titles and two National Hurling League medals, latter in 1965 and 1968, during a successful sporting career.
As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team Mr Roche won three Railway Cup medals and at club level won two championship medals with Carrick Davins. Playing championship hurling on some 27 occasions; Mr Roche retired following the 1974 championship, after eleven years as a member of the senior hurling team.
The passing of Mr Roche is most deeply regretted by his loving wife Mary; family Elaine, Siobhán and Michael; sons-in-law Conor and Colm; grandchildren Mari and Fionn; brothers Tom and Donald; brother-in-law; sisters-in-law; nephews; nieces; extended relatives, neighbours and his many friends from the world of hurling.
Funeral Arrangements
The earthly remains of Mr Roche will repose at his residence on Friday evening next from 3.00pm to 8.00pm.
Requiem Mass will be held on Saturday in St. Peter’s Church, Moycarkey at 11.30am followed by burial immediately afterwards in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Moycarkey, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
