One of Ireland’s top greyhounds, stolen in a robbery in the early hours of Monday morning last from Riverside Kennels, Athassel Abbey, Golden, Co. Tipperary; latter owned by top Tipperary trainer Mr Graham Holland, has been located safe and well.
The dog ‘Clares Rocket’, regarded as the Shergar of the greyhound racing world and which is tipped as one of the favourites to win the 2017 English Derby (latter prize of some €300,000), has a potential stud value estimated at some €1m.
Following a Garda Operation yesterday, 6th of December 2016, four males were arrested in relation to the theft. It is understood that two males are being detained at Tipperary Town Garda Station, while two others are being detained in Clonmel Garda Station; all held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
It was confirmed that a ransom demand was made for the dog’s safe return, however the stolen dog is understood to have been tagged and micro-chipped, which would have helped Gardaí in the determination of its whereabouts.
