The 2015 ‘Hidden Heroes’ Awards, hosted by Hidden Hearing, and sponsored by Age Action; Home Instead Senior Care; GP Buddy; Travel Fox; Irish Deaf Society and Vodafone, this week recognised the work of those across Ireland who give up their free time for the benefit of others.
At this the fifth annual ‘Hidden Heroes’ awards ceremony held in Dublin, amongst the 21 people and organisations who were recognised for their hard work and contributions to local communities (chosen I understand from some 2,000 submissions), was Thurles local Mr Patrick Ryan, No. 30, Kennedy Park, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.
Patrick (pictured forth from left in the picture shown above), won the overall ‘Family Hero’ Award for his 35 years of unwavering dedication to his late brother Michael, (RIP).
TV Broadcaster Mary Kennedy, comparing this event, stated that this occasion gave an opportunity nationally to each of us in celebrating the achievements of Irish people from every walk of life, “who are quite simply helping others, without expecting anything whatsoever in return”.
Also making presentations and addressing those in attendance, was the Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh, who stated; “Not only do these hero’s cope with their challenges with courage and dignity, but they make a real difference to their families, their workplaces, the sports field and their communities in the process. They are not shouting about what they do but their friends, family members, team members and co-workers know who they are and have brought them here to celebrate their achievements today and we are delighted to celebrate with you.”
The Managing Director of Hidden Hearing Mr Stephen Leddy said he continued to be in total awe at how people overcome the difficulties they face, “not only when it comes to their hearing, but also right across the board.”
“We at Hidden Hearing are delighted to have an opportunity to say, ‘well done and thank you,” Mr Leddy continued.
A former cancer survivor himself, Mr Patrick Ryan was presented with his Dublin Crystal Glass award by the Lord Mayor of Dublin Críona Ní Dhálaigh. Mr Ryan was accompanied to the glitzy event by his brother, Tom, his sister in law Ina Ryan and his niece, Brid Ryan.
Congratulations Michael and well deserved.
