An Bord Pleanala has granted permission for the development of a much-needed inner relief road out of Thurles.
The planned relief road, subject to the provision of funding, is now planned to run from the Clongour area to the rear of the present old Erin Foods site, before crossing the river to exit onto the Mill Road south-east of Thurles.
This green light approval is subject to the usual normal expected planning conditions for the area which includes consultation with National Parks and Wildlife Department together with the appointment of an archaeologist to monitor all intended site developments.
Funding will immediately now be sought for this project from the Department of the Environment and this development, together with the proposed extra off street parking facilities planned into the future revamp of Liberty Square, is expected to massively reduce the congestion currently being experienced within the town’s main business centre.
