A male, aged in his sixties, has died following a single-vehicle crash in Co Tipperary this afternoon. The accident occurred on the R687 at Newtown, New Inn, Cashel, at approximately 2.45pm this afternoon.
Gardaí confirm that the victim was fatally injured when the car, driven by himself, left the road, entered a ditch, before eventually colliding with a tree trunk. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has now been removed to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where a post mortem is expected to take place.
Another 35-year-old male passenger, accompanying the driver in the vehicle, was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where his injuries this afternoon were described as being non-life threatening.
The road was closed for some time to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to contact Cahir Garda Station on Tel: 052 7445630, or the Garda Confidential Line Tel: 1800 666 111 – or indeed any Garda Station.
