News, just coming in, indicates that a serious traffic accident has occurred close to Thurles town centre here in Co Tipperary.
It is understood that a truck has collided with a pedestrian close to the junction of Slievenamon Road and Liberty Square, Thurles. The pedestrian, who is understood to be a middle aged female and not a native of the town, has regrettably died at the scene.
The street is currently completely closed off and is expected to remain so for some time, with traffic diversions in place, as investigators examine the accident scene. Vehicles travelling from a southern direction are being directed to the town centre via Croke Street & Emmet Street in the town.
