The road between Gortnahoe and Ballysloe here in Co Tipperary will remains closed this morning following a crash in the area late last night, in which a 34 year old man has tragically lost his life.
The incident occurred at Boulick, Gothnahoe near Thurles, at around 10.00pm yesterday, when the motorcyclist was in collision with a car and tragically died at the scene.
While the dead man has been named locally as Mr John Brennan (34), of Glengoole, Thurles, Co Tipperary, a female driver of the second vehicle was reported to be uninjured.
A post mortem on the body is expected to be carried out at Waterford Regional Hospital today, while a Garda forensic examination of the crash scene is nearing completion.
Gardaí here in Thurles who are investigating the collision have appealed for witnesses to contact them on Telephone 0504-25100.
Yesterday’s death brings to 16 the number of motorcyclists killed on Ireland’s roads so far this year.
