In the Republic of Ireland today, there have been 4,821 positive cases of Covid-19 confirmed by PCR testing and a further 3,772 people have registered a positive antigen test through the HSE portal.
The above confirmed figures bring the total number of virus cases in the Irish Republic, in the past 24 hours to 8,593; down 848 on yesterday’s reported figures.
As of 8:00am today, there were 591 Covid-19 patients in hospital, down 148 on yesterday, with 57 cases in intensive care, down 1 also on yesterday.
Today, Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed that the Government will be accepting the advice issued by the National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) in relation to the wearing of masks.
Another 2,469 cases of coronavirus has been confirmed in Northern Ireland today, down from 3,027 on yesterday.
Today, there were 433 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in Northern Ireland, down 10 on yesterday and of these 9 patients are in intensive care units, down 2 on yesterday’s figures.
Sadly, 4 more Covid-19-related deaths have also been reported in Northern Ireland today.
