Covid-19 Update: Sat. 9th Jan. 2021 – 9 Deaths – 4,842 New Cases

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that sadly there has been 9 further deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,336.

There are 4,842 new additional virus cases reported today; some cases of which are the new Covid-19 variant that originated in South Africa. This leaves the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 140,727.

According to Ireland’s COVID-19 Data Hub, there have been 2,676 covid cases in total, here in Co. Tipperary up to Thursday last. There have been 1,019 new recorded cases in the past 14 days, ending January 8th, within the county; with an increase of 118 in the past 24 hours, also up until midnight, last night, January 8th 2021.

Of today’s cases nationally; 1,049 are in Dublin, 530 in Cork, 514 in Waterford, 405 in Wexford, 247 in Louth with the remaining 2,097 cases located across all other counties.

There are now 1,293 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 119 patients in intensive care units.

In Northern Ireland today, sadly an additional 9 deaths from Covid-19 were reported, with another 1,442 new infections confirmed.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at well over 89 million, with global deaths at almost 1.92 million.
