The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Tony Holohan, has stated that every individual in Ireland should consider themselves potentially infectious.
The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that there have sadly been 12 further death caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,237.
There are 1,620 new additional virus cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 91,779.
With all non-essential retail closing from 6:00pm this evening, and Gardaí rolling out a high-visibility campaign to support the introduction of full Level 5 measures; based on today’s figures Dr. Tony Holohan has expressed concern that current Level 5 measures, introduced just yesterday, may still not be sufficient to curb the current transmission of the virus.
Of today’s cases; 498 are in Dublin, 203 in Limerick, 89 in Galway, 73 in Cork, 67 in Mayo, with the remaining 690 cases located across all other counties.
Further data relevant up to midnight on Tuesday, December 29th last confirms that Tipperary has had 1,835 cases of the virus to date; an increase of 25 over the previous 24 hours.
There are now 490 patients with Covid-19 in hospital in the Republic, with 42 patients in intensive care units.
Some 25 nursing homes are to receive the coronavirus vaccine from Monday next, with a full roll-out to nursing homes over the following week.
The ambulance service in Northern Ireland is ready for long delays and their hospitals have almost reached their full capacity.
Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at almost 83 million, with global deaths at well over 1.8 million.
