Covid-19 Update: Sat. 5th Dec. 2020 – 13 Deaths – 456 New Cases.

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that there have been sadly 13 deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll, here in the Republic of Ireland, remaining at 2,099.

There are 456 new additional virus cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 73,948.

Of this evening’s confirmed cases; 197 are in Dublin; 37 in Donegal; 33 in Limerick; 21 in Louth; 20 in Kilkenny; with the remaining 148 cases located across the 21 other counties.

Seven coronavirus-related deaths have been sadly recorded in Northern Ireland, taking their official Department of Health toll to 1,039. An additional 451 new virus cases have also been confirmed taking the cumulative total todate to 54,628.

There were 231 people bring treated in hospital with Covid-19, with 28 of these being treated for Covid-19 in intensive care units across the Republic.

Specialist freezers, required to store Covid-19 vaccines, have started to arrive in Ireland, the Health Service Executive chief Mr Paul Reid has revealed. When fully installed, Ireland now has the capacity to acquire 16 million doses of any Covid-19 vaccine.

Students attending the University of Limerick are being offered free Covid-19 tests before they travel to their homes here in Tipperary and elsewhere for the Christmas break.

With Ireland’s 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the population standing at about 78.3; people are being urged by all health experts to make every possible effort to keep safe, if heading out and about this weekend, in a collective effort to suppress the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

Total global cases up to 5.30pm this evening, now stand at well over 66.1 million with global deaths at well over 1.52 million.
