Covid-19 Update: Tue. 20th Oct. 2020 – 13 Deaths – 1,269 New Cases

17 new killer Covid-19 virus cases confirmed in Tipperary

The Department of Health have confirmed this evening that there have been 13 new deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic; leaving the overall death toll here in the Republic of Ireland remaining at 1,865.

As already stated, there are 1,269 new additional cases reported today, leaving the current total number of confirmed cases, since conception in the Irish Republic, at 52,256 . Today sets a new record for the highest number of Covid-19 cases reported on any single day.

Of this evening’s confirmed cases; 17 are in Co. Tipperary (1,016 cases to date per RTE summary); 221 in Meath; 203 in Dublin; 116 in Cork; 80 in Cavan; and the remaining 632 cases are spread across all remaining counties.

Today nationally, 312 Covid-19 patients are in hospital, with 34 of these in ICU’s.

The Cabinet has agreed to move the 26 counties to Level 5 restrictions with a few alterations, from midnight on Wednesday for the following six weeks. As part of such alterations, they have decided to increase the number of people who can attend funerals during the period of Level 5 restrictions from 10 to 25 persons.

Legislation to allow for the issuing of fines for breaches of restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19 is set to be passed by the Oireachtas within a matter of days. The current penalty of €2,500 or up to six months in prison will apply for travel restriction beaches until any new law is passed.

There have been 913 new cases of coronavirus recorded in Northern Ireland today and sad to report 3 further death, taking the official toll to 624.

Total global cases this evening now stand at over 40.5 million [40,514,091] with global deaths at well over 1 million [1,120,490].
