Six further individuals have been arrested as part of “Operation Coronation”, following searches last Wednesday in counties Tipperary, Limerick and Clare, latter targeting associates and interests supporting organised crime in Co. Limerick. This brings to 20 the number of people arrested as part of a Garda investigation into organised crime in the mid-west region.
Last Wednesday evening, June 17th, further searches resulted in the recovery of €40,000 in cash, along with evidence relating to the sale and supply of controlled drugs. A total of 11 bank accounts had already been frozen, containing in excess of €200,000.
Four high-value cars were seized with one vehicle seized for having no valid insurance.
On Saturday morning last, June 20th, a further search of waste ground in the area of Prospect, Co Limerick, located two firearms and a telescopic, expandable Taser stun baton; found all protected by plastic wrapping.
A number of the individuals arrested have now been charged; having appeared before the court. Files on a number of others also arrested and facing charges, are expected to appear before the courts over the coming weeks, once files have been prepared by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
