Today, here in Co. Tipperary, Phase One of the government’s plan for easing covid -19 restrictions got underway.
Under Phase One, some construction work has begun on the new carpark here in Thurles and also on the Lidl site on Slievenamon road. Hardware stores have reopened and local residents are meeting outdoors in small groups.
Work has also started today on the layout of a new local authority housing development involving the construction of 28 houses, in Thurles, on the Mill Road area of the town.
The total number of Covid-19 virus cases that have been confirmed here in Co. Tipperary; as of midnight on Sat, May 16th last, this evening has been recorded as 524, an apparent increase of 1 only recorded new cases, within a period of 24 hours.
The Department of Health has confirmed, this evening, that a further 4 people have tragically died from the virus, here in the Republic of Ireland, over the past 24 hours. These latest figures bring the total number of deaths from this pandemic nationally, sadly to 1,547.
Two of these cases we understand refer to April of this year and the two others refer to the past weekend.
This evening, it has also been confirmed that an additional 88 new cases of coronavirus have been identified nationally, bringing the total since conception to 24,200.
Today is the third time since mid-March that the number of new confirmed cases has fallen nationally below the figure of 100.
