As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs within the Tipperary Garda Division, a vehicle was stopped and searched by Gardaí near Abbeyleix, Co. Laois, at approximately 8.20pm last night (16th August 2018).
During this search a quantity of drugs (suspected cocaine pending analysis) with an estimated street value of €50,000, was seized.
Two men aged between 30 and 50 years, were both arrested at the scene and are currently being detained here at Thurles Garda Station.
Both men are being held under the provisions of Section 2, Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 as amended. [Powers under Section 2. – Where a member of an Garda Síochána force arrests, without warrant, a person whom he or she, with reasonable cause, whom they suspect of having committed a drug trafficking offence.]
Gardaí are conducting searches in a number of houses in Co. Tipperary, including a number of premises in the Killenaule area, as part of their ongoing drugs investigations.
