Fifty five individuals were detained at Garda Stations including Clonmel, Co. Tipperary; Kilkenny; Thomastown, and Athy, in an all out operation targeting criminal activity.
The arrests took place over a three days period ending January 31st, and were led by Kilkenny Gardaí, as part of ‘Operation Storm’, who also carried out some 19 searches in Kilkenny county, since Monday last, supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit.
Same searches resulted in the arrest of 39 people for criminal offences and 16 others being detained on warrants. The alleged offences of those arrested included, fraud; robbery; burglary; theft; possession of drugs, and assault.
Sixteen of those arrested were charged and three appeared before a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court last night.
