One male aged in his 30’s and one female aged in her 20’s were both arrested yesterday by Gardaí, who seized a large quantity of cocaine during a series of searches here in Co. Tipperary and Co. Clare.
The market value of the drugs haul seized in Co. Tipperary; which has yet to be analysed, is estimated to be worth somewhere in the region of €70,000.
It is understood that Gardaí, led by the Clare Divisional Drug’s unit and supported by Units from the Limerick Division, conducted investigations yesterday which involved the stopping and searching of a car close to Birdhill, Co Tipperary, where the cocaine was recovered. The arrested couple remain currently detained at Shannon Garda Station, held there under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drug Trafficking Act, 1996.
We understand that further searches were carried out at a residence in Newmarket-on-Fergus Co. Clare, latter some 48km or 30mls from Birdhill, via the N18, where drug paraphernalia including packaging and a weighing scales were also discovered.
This significant seizure was part of ongoing shared intelligence gathering by Gardaí, targeting the sale and supply of illegal drugs here in the Mid-West Region.
