Yesterday saw Tipperary’s M/s Bridget (Biddy) Ryan introduced as the 2016 inductee into the Ladies Gaelic Football Hall of Fame (LGFA). One of the founding members of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, she attended the first ever meeting of the LGFA at Hayes Hotel here in Liberty Square, Thurles, Co. Tipperary back in 1974.
M/s Ryan has held a long association with Ladies Gaelic Football, having played with Co.Tipperary through the 60’s and early 70’s, before retiring just before the first ever Ladies Gaelic Football All Ireland Final in 1974. Same final featured Tipperary; the team of which she was then acting Secretary, and who defeated Offaly in October of that same year.
Since 1974, M/s Ryan has continued her involvement in an administrative capacity with Co. Tipperary, and currently holds the Post of Chairperson of the Tipperary Ladies County Board.
M/s Ryan is also one of the founding member of her local club in Ardfinnan, and remains both a member and an Administrator of that club. She will officially be inducted into the Ladies Gaelic Football Hall of Fame on Saturday next at the ‘TG4 All Stars’ which will be held in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin.
Congratulations and thank you for your huge contribution to sport.
