George: From afar in California I always follow your reports of births, deaths, and marriages around Thurles. This one matters a little more than others. My eldest known Hayes ancestor (5 generations back) was married to a Maher, lived on “The Islands”, and raised two of five children there. Surely there is a weak genetic connection from me to Mary and Bridget. Alas, the Maher sept is widespread and not easily traced.
