A female in her 20’s has lost her life today after the vehicle in which she was travelling collided with a truck here in Co Tipperary.
The tragic accident happened shortly after 12 noon on the M8, northbound lane, between junction 9 (Cashel) and junction 10 (Cahir North) at Dogstown, NewInn.
Two females passengers in the vehicle, understood to be aged in their 50s, were brought; one to University Hospital Limerick by Air Ambulance, while the second is being treated at nearby South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel. Thankfully the driver of the truck was uninjured.
The M8 northbound between junction 9 and 10 remained restricted to just one lane this afternoon, as forensic collision investigations were being carry out. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Today’s unfortunate death brings to 11 the number of people who have died on Tipperary’s roads to-date this year, while deaths nationally have now risen to 124. Based on official statistics from the Gardaí; compared with last year this latest fatality increases to 20 the number of road deaths, when compared to the same period last year when 104 deaths were recorded.
