A male motorcyclist has regrettably died following a road traffic accident, one mile approximately from Templemore, near Thurles in Co Tipperary.
It is understood that a car and a motorcycle collided at Cloone Cross, Templemore, at around 11.55am yesterday morning.
The motorcyclist involved, understood to be aged in his 70’s, was seriously injured and was rushed to University Hospital in Limerick, where last night he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car was reported as not injured in the collision and the road remained closed yesterday morning for forensic investigation.
Area Gardaí from Templemore are investigating this incident and have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Templemore Garda Station on Tel: 0504 32630, or on the Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
The deceased elderly man has not been, as yet, officially named until next of kin have been notified.
So far in 2014, 188 people have now died on Irish roads (16 of which died in Co Tipperary) and of which 21 overall deaths involved motorcyclists.
