It is with great personal sadness that I report the death this afternoon of a young man, who lost his life tragically, during what appears to have been a workplace accident near Cashel, Co Tipperary.
The incident is understood to have happened when the young man, a native of Templetuohy, Thurles, Co Tipperary, aged in his 30’s and the father of three children, was working underneath a lorry on the road, close to a nearby filling station.
The man has been named locally as Mr Maurice O’Sullivan.
It is understood the man, who was a qualified and professional mechanic, was attempting to fix a broken down truck, when the vehicles axle on which he was working, collapsed on top of him.
Gardaí and Medical Personnel were quickly called to the scene of the accident, which is understood to have happened shortly before 2.00pm this afternoon.
The Health and Safety Authority have been informed and Gardaí from Cashel have also launched an investigation into the incident.
To his family, relatives and many friends go our sincere sympathies.
