Limited Free Parking For Thurles Shoppers

Liberty Square, Thurles.

Liberty Square, Thurles.

Free parking for all motorists is to be re-introduced once again in Thurles, but with limitations.

Free parking will apply to Saturday mornings only between the hours 9.00am and 12.00 noon and will be restricted to all main car parks in the town, e.g. Parnell Car Park, The Source and to the rear of the present Munster Hotel in Cathedral Street.

A motion to this effect was put forward by Thurles local town Councillor Mr Michael Cleary at tonight’s Town Council monthly meeting and formally agreed and sanctioned by those Councillors in attendance.

Mr Cleary argued that on his recent visits to Liberty Square over the past few Saturday mornings, he had found the area far from being a hive of industry, as one would normally expect and called upon his fellow Councillors to support hard pushed traders, by offering at least some leeway with regard to parking charges in an effort to boost town centre trading.

Free parking will now begin in all major car parks with effect from next Saturday, September 7th 2013 within the specified hours already stated above.

Note: Liberty Square and all on-street parking will continue to remain subject to normal Pay & Display Car parking charges on Saturday mornings.
