Gardaí at Cashel, Co Tipperary, are searching for three youths who used a digger to cause extensive damage a new building at St John the Baptist girls primary school, Old Rd, Cashel. The male youths entered the grounds of the primary school by climbing over fencing at the back of the premises in the early hours of Thursday morning last, July 25th
Wearing dark coloured clothes and ‘Hoodies,’ the youths are understood to have commandeered a digger, then on the school grounds and specifically targeted a new school extension, forcing the arm of the digger down through the roof of the structure, nearing completion. This wilful act has now left the building unsafe and with the possibility, subject to further expert examination, in a position where it will require to be totally demolished.
The incident which lasted just six minutes, was captured on CCTV. This video footage also captured the vandals taking pictures of their wanton destruction, on their mobile phones. Cashel Fire Brigade was later called to this same area, this time to the scene of a blazing car which had been deliberately set on fire at about the same time or shortly afterwards.
Witnesses or anyone who has any information about the incident are being asked to contact Cashel Garda Station in strictest confidence at Tel: 062 75840 or their Confidential Line Tel: 1800 666111.
The “Birch” is needed badly to be used once a day during their 10 year gaol sentence.
