A husband and wife were killed last night in a horrific head on, two-car collision at Troyswood on the Kilkenny to Freshford road, approximately two and a half miles outside of Kilkenny city.
The crash happened around 6.45pm and Garda crash scene investigators last night closed the road, in an attempt to establish the circumstances which lead to the second double fatal collision within the last 48 hours.
At the scene a 65-year-old man was pronounced dead and his 61-year-old wife was later pronounced dead at St Luke’s Hospital, in Kilkenny city.
A third woman, a passenger in the same car, was taken to hospital, while the occupants, a man and woman, in the second car, were also rushed to hospital.
The dead couple are believed to be natives of the Barnane, Drom, Templemore area of Co Tipperary and todate have not been named until relatives have been notified.
