A full police investigation is under way in Lagos, Nigeria, following the discovery of the body of an Irish national in the Sheraton Hotel in the city last week.
Per a report in todays Irish Independent newspaper, the body has been identified as that of airline mechanic Mr John Falvey, aged 53, and a native of Thurles, Co Tipperary who formerly worked with Aer Lingus.
While the circumstances surrounding Mr Falvey’s death remain unclear, police are treating it as suspicious and have arrested a woman known to the dead man, who is believed to have been in his company prior to Mr Falvey’s death.
A Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman has confirmed that investigation in Nigeria are continuing into all circumstances surrounding the case.
It has been reported that the victim’s body showed evidence of marks on his neck, when his body was found and police were investigating the theory that he may have been strangled.
Mr Falvey had been working in Nigeria for several months and the 332 bedroomed newly refurbished Sheraton Lagos Hotel is in the heart of the Industrial Ikeja area’s many attractions and is convenient to the airport.
